Medication Management

As a psychiatrist, I advocate strongly for pharmacological treatments supported by empirical evidence. I am committed to staying informed about the latest clinical research to ensure the most effective treatments are considered; however, I exercise caution with newer medications, often preferring to wait until they have undergone extensive community surveillance before making recommendations.

In our sessions, we will engage in a comprehensive discussion of your biological, psychological, and social history, following the biopsychosocial model of care. This allows us to consider all factors that might influence your health and treatment options. I will provide a range of treatment ideas, detailing their potential risks and benefits, to help inform your treatment decisions.

My approach to prescribing is best summarized by the principle "start low and go slow," ensuring that any pharmacological treatment is tailored to your individual needs and introduced in a cautious, controlled manner.

Psychotherapy

In addition to medication management, my therapeutic approach incorporates ideas, theories, and practices from various psychotherapy modalities, adapted to meet the diverse needs of my patients. Rather than adhering strictly to any single model, I utilize supportive therapy to foster a nurturing environment that supports your mental health journey. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles are often applied to modify detrimental patterns of thought and behavior effectively. Recognizing the profound impact of family dynamics, our sessions may integrate elements of family therapy to help understand and improve these crucial interactions. In children, Parent Management Training (PMT) is often utilized to provide strategies such as positive reinforcement, token economy systems, effective discipline, modeling of positive behavior, enhanced communication, and robust problem-solving skills, all aimed at fostering healthier family interactions and effective child behavior management. This flexible, integrative approach ensures that therapy is personalized to best suit the individual circumstances and needs of each patient.

Collaborative Treatment and Referrals

Navigating the complexities of behavioral health often necessitates a collaborative approach. I prioritize teamwork and integration, working closely with established therapists and specialists to ensure comprehensive care. When specific expertise is required, I maintain strong connections with a network of professionals, including:

  • Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) & Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) for OCD

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

  • Psychodynamic Therapy

  • ADHD and Executive Functioning Coaching

  • Family Therapy

  • Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

  • Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

  • Neuropsychological Evaluations

This integrated, team-based approach ensures thorough treatment planning and patient care, enhancing both outcomes and satisfaction.

Consultations

Sometimes, patients and families are primarily interested in understanding the psychiatric processes that may be impacting their behaviors without a commitment to long-term treatment. I offer one-time consultations that can be useful for gaining a clearer perspective and guidance in these situations. Whether you're seeking a brief exploration of psychiatric conditions or consideration of treatment options, these consultations can provide valuable insights.

Additionally, if you are currently receiving treatment elsewhere and are looking for a second opinion, I am available to discuss the approach of your current physician. I welcome the opportunity to offer my expertise to ensure that you or your child are receiving the most effective care possible. Please feel free to reach out to schedule a consultation with me.
